Infections

What is an Infection?

The invasion and growth of germs in one’s body is called an Infection. The germs may be bacteria, viruses, yeast, fungi, or other microorganisms. Infections can begin anywhere in the body and may spread all through it. An infection can cause fever and other health problems depending on where it occurs in the body.

What are the types of infections?

The four different categories of infectious agents are bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. When studying these agents, researchers isolate them using certain criteria like the size of the infectious agent.

What are examples of infections?

Infectious diseases are diseases caused by living organisms like viruses and bacteria. Described as contagious, they can be passed from person to person through body secretions, insects or other means. Examples are SARS, Influenza, Common cold, Tuberculosis (TB), and Hepatitis A and B.

What things cause infections?

Infectious diseases commonly spread through the direct transfer of bacteria, viruses or other germs from one person to another. This can happen when an individual with the bacterium or virus touches, kisses, coughs or sneezes on someone who isn’t infected.
